Mrs. Kate (L.S.) Guzzi
My name is Kate ( Leah Simcha) Guzzi and I am an artist and art teacher living in Bat Ayin, Israel with my husband and three children. The intense holiness and history of Jerusalem had a big influence on my work. I expressed these feelings with a series of paintings on King David. I also started to play a lot with geometrical shapes thereby assembling a patchwork of the strong emotions I felt for standing here in Israel, the land where our forefathers walked !A year later I met my husband and we relocated to Paris so he could finish his studies. It was difficult to leave Israel and to feel old Europe but in there I studied oil painting and worked on several commissions for private collections. The ornate architecture of Paris and detailed gardens were very inspiring and a big influence during that period of my life. After two years we happily returned to Jerusalem and lived in the Old City with our first children. Living close to the Kotel was a big inspiration for me. The strong feelings awakened by being with Jews from all over the world and by living in the center of our people’s history became embedded in the colors, swirls and shapes of my work. I exhibited my paintings at Kami’s gallery on Yoel Solomon Street. We eventually moved to Kiryat Arba, close to Hevron, and I became overwhelmed by the deep spiritual roots that our Forefathers laid there. During the bus rides between Jerusalem and Kiryat Arba, the song of the hills seeped into my soul and led to a series of landscape paintings. That combination of beauty and spirituality is breathtaking to me.
